Ministry Background: Youth Minister at Lucy Baptist Church 2008 - 2009; Evangelism/Missions Minister IBC 09/11 - present; Youth Minister IBC 08/11 - present
I was called to IBC on : August of 2011
My Family Details: married to Olivia, the greatest woman I know
My Role at IBC: My first role at IBC is to be a servant to the King by serving His people. As the Youth Minister I get the great privilege of hanging out with the greatest students I have ever met. I get the chance to build relationships with them through discipleship, weekly teaching of the Word, and by having times to fellowship monthly with them both inside and outside of the church walls. The greatest privilege I have pertaining to the students is being open to them as both a leader and a friend in order to see them grow in their relationships with Christ. As the Missions/Evangelism minister I will be planning and hosting the Missions Banquet and prayerfully considering and looking for opportunities for IBC to be involved in missions by both giving and going. I will also be overseeing E-Sundays which occur every six weeks. This is a time when our church goes out into our community (and occasionally helps other churches) to knock on doors and share the good news of Jesus Christ with every person of Olive Branch.
Personal Story: I grew up in a loving home where both of my parents were very involved in my life by both support and encouragement. I first realized my need for Christ when I was 10 and after counsel and conversations with my pastor and family was saved shortly after. Unfortunately early into high school I made the choice to "be cool" (not cool at all now that I look back) instead of "being real." I struggled with many things during this time but God continued to remind me of His love and like the song goes, "He never lets go." After returning home from college I finally got real about living for Jesus and surrendered to the ministry which is what I had been running from for all of those years. Shortly after that I met a beautiful girl at a coffee shop where I was working and was immediately drawn to the way she lived for Christ.....and her good looks sure helped too. Olivia and I were married on December 17, 2005 and I still fall more in love with her every day. We moved to Memphis to finish seminary at Mid America in June of 2008 and in June of 2010 we started attending IBC. We have been waiting on the Lord to show us our next move and He saw fit that we come on staff here at Immanuel. We are blown away at the chance to serve the King along with the greatest group of believers that we have ever seen. God is truly amazing!
Favorite Book of the Bible: Probably the hardest question ever....Jonah, 1&2 Chronicles, or Hebrews......wait maybe Mark. I love it all and highly suggest it to everyone.
Recent Books I’ve Enjoyed: The King's Cross by Tim Keller, The Key to triumphant living by Jack Taylor, The Jesus I never knew by Philip Yancey, The Autobiography of George Mueller.
Books I'm Enjoying Now: Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning (reread), In His steps by Charles Sheldon (reread), A History of Christianity in the United States and Canada by Mark Noll
Most Fulfilling Aspect of my Ministry at IBC: Watching students use the passion that they naturally have to honor and serve the king. I love watching them catch on fire for His name's sake.
Places of Service Available in my Ministry: (Youth) I have a great need for adults (parents and non parents) to be available to students. This could be through hanging out on Wednesday nights, fellowship events, camps or retreats, or just over a meal after church. (Missions/Evangelism) GET INVOLVED....to quote one of my favorite authors, "Go, Send, or Disobey."
Spiritual Gifts: Teaching, service, and mercy
I Hope Heaven Includes: Since I know Christ will be there (and that is more than enough) I don't need to list Him here. Personally I am really hoping for Ice Cream....I have a little bit of an addiction. (Favorite flavor: the cold kind)
The Smartest Thing I’ve Ever Done: Coming to the truth that Christ is Lord, preeminent, and a willing savior and getting myself in line with that truth. After that realizing that if I will simply keep my hands off of things and allow Him to lead I will be much better off. Also pretty smart of me to spill my heart out to Olivia in the coffee shop that night....you should ask her about it.
How You Can Pray for Me: That I will wake each day with a new and more passionate hunger for my King and Lord and His word. Please also pray that I will be the husband, minister, son, brother, and friend that God desires for me to be.
