Deacon Retreat 2011

Adult II Couples 5th Sunday Breakfast (Oct 2011)
Click on photo for entire setThe Adult II Couples Class regularly takes advantage of the 5th Sunday (which occurs once a quarter) to deviate from the usual Sunday School routine. This is when we fix breakfast and share our usual time of fellowship and study over a good hot breakfast meal. This particular Sunday we had Joe and LeeAnn Andrews as special guests. They are a journeyman missionary couple to Argentina who are currently in our area while completing advanced studies in missions a Mid America Seminary.

Dr. May's Trip to Zimbabwe

Dr. May is a former missionary to Zimbabwe. He is also a longtime professor of missiology at Mid America Baptist Theological Seminary. These unique qualifications led to an invitation by the International Mission Board to return to Zimbabwe for a two week consultation with Gweru Seminary. His task was to advise the faculty in reprogramming their syllabus of instruction and of course, spend some time in the bush, ministering and visiting old friends.

Adult II Couples Class July 2011 Fellowship
Click on photo to view entire setThe July class fellowship was held at the Wofford home this year. The hot days of summer made the pool a popular place for everyone. Gayle did a fantastic job of hosting and coordinating all the food which was supplied by the class members in abundance. Even the dogs got in on the eats.

Vacation Bible School 2011 (Beach Blast)
Click on photo to view entire setLet's go down to the beach!! That was the theme for this year's Vacation Bible School at Immanuel Baptist Church. Over 100 children and workers turned out to make the 2011 summer training program a big success!. The children were taught about God's love for them as demonstrated through the life Christ and the teachings of the Bible. The teachers used everything from multi-media presentations, to classroom discussion, to arts and crafts projects to open every child's heart to the possibilities of God's plan for their lives. The week was capped off with a special Sunday morning service where every child's family was treated to a review of their child's VBS activities and accomplishments. Special thanks to Heather Hurtt and her crew who banded together and worked hard to make this year's VBS time so successful!

Adult II Couples Class Service Project (Q1-2011)
Click on PhotoThe Adult II Couples Class has set a goal to complete one service project each quarter. For our first effort, we chose to paint the home of one of our members who is currently serving as a missionary in Costa Rica, Central America. It took a few months and days of scraping, repairing, caulking and painting, but the exterior of the home looks fresh and new. Thanks to Britt Bender and Steve Pyles for taking the lead and coordinating all aspects of the class effort!

Adult II Couples Class 2011 Spring Picnic
Click on PhotoThanks to Mark and Cathy Walgenbach for organzing the first annual class spring picnic in the Olive Branch City Park. It really was a spring weekend (May) when we held the event, even though the temperatures never got out of the 50's. Still, the food, fun and fellowship was worth it!

Men's Ministry Bowling Night 2011

This event has become a tradition over the last few years. Men's Ministry leader, David Wittrock, calls the men together every year for a time of friendly competition, hurling the rock at the pins. Fortunately, non of us are good enough to warrant taking the game seriously. It's all fun!

Marriage Retreat 2011

Once again, several of our married couples fled to Kirkwood National Golf Club to get away from the routines of life overnight and focus on strengthening the marriage relationship. Our own Paul and Michelle Betts did a tremendous job in leading and teaching.

Every year the Adult II Couples Sunday School Class comes together to celebrate the Christmas season and enjoy great food and fellowship. This year was no different. Gifts were exchanged (and stolen), great food was eaten (thank you Gayle) and games were played. It was a fun time of Christian warmth and love.

After 37 years, Immanuel Baptist Church is still growing and going in the name of Jesus. Rev. John Goldwater, a former member and now pastor of his own church in Grenada, returned to deliver a challenging message (which can be heard on our Sermon Audio page). It was a great day of fellowship and affirmation among old and new friends in Christ.
